perfect spring sunday

Greg and I visited one of the newest state parks on Sunday afternoon. Wingfoot State Park in Suffield, just outside of Akron, was the former summer playground for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. It’s a gorgeously lush park on a lake that overlooks the current hanger that houses one of the Goodyear Blimps.

I have a soft spot for weeping willow trees. There were quite a few of them that we would pass in Mogadore when we visited my grandparents. I couldn’t resist capturing a shot of this tree, just as it begins to unfold its leaves.

five senses friday #7

Five senses Friday, my chance to describe the last week. What were your five senses? Please share them in the comments section.

seeing:

blimps. one of my favorite things about living in the Akron area. on any particular day, you can see one of these giants floating overhead.

tasting:

those amazing peanut butter & jelly cupcakes from Monday.

hearing:

classic 10,000 Maniacs. It’s been great fun to go back and listen to these wonderful songs. these are days is my favorite, and probably what I would consider my “theme song.”

smelling:

grilled hot dogs. hello summer.

feeling:

ready for vacation at the beach. i’m counting the days.

And a few more images from the last week:

blimp over the u

Greg and I did a little exploring around Akron this afternoon. First, we headed to The University of Akron campus to check out the new football stadium. All the while we were tailed by the Goodyear blimp, constantly monitoring our movements. Later we hiked one of the new portions of the Towpath Trail at Summit Lake.  A portion of the trail actually floats above the lake. This hike was a lesson in urban graffiti. I guess I was somewhat comforted by the peace sign…
