five senses friday

  • seeingthe herbs in my potted garden thriving. And yes, I know that I probably shouldn’t allow the garlic chives to flower, but I just couldn’t resist those beautiful little white blossoms.  The bees have been quite fond of them, as well.
  • tasting - the club ciabatta sandwich at The Creperie. Why do sandwiches always taste better when someone else makes them? Because they use crispy fried prosciutto, that’s why.
  • hearing - cheers for my niece’s volleyball team. Very proud Uncle, here.
  • smelling  – the unpleasant scent of tomato plant on my hands after picking.
  • feelinghot and muggy. I need a fall-like-sweater-vest-wearing-day soon.

How would you sum up your last week in 5 senses or less?  Please share in the comments section. Hope you have  a swell weekend. We have an extra long weekend full of several visits with dear friends and a visit from the cable installation guy.

  • smelling  – the scent of tomatoes and spices simmering for three hours as I made tomato jam.
  • feeling – content, very content, now that I’ve posted my first “five senses friday” in many months.

five senses friday #17 : the return

I’m working through my mild case of “bloggers block”. For a while there I was blogging up a storm. To be honest, I was probably over doing it a bit. But I do need to get back on track. A few weeks ago I promised 5 desserts in 5 days. That got a little side-tracked, but thanks for the reminder Jim. It’s coming later this month, I promise. At any rate I thought that a great way to get back into the blogging habit would be to start with a Five Senses Friday post. So here goes. And as usual, I’d love for you to share yours in the comments section.

  • seeing – the amazing smile from the one I love the most.
  • tasting – butternut squash ravioli seared in brown butter, and topped with a spiced cream sauce from Hudson’s Restaurant.  It’s featured on their special seasonal menu and it was amazing.
  • hearing - the new album Sidewalks from Matt & Kim. It’s the best collection of tunes I’ve listened to this year. A few of my favorite tracks include Good for Great, Cameras, and Block after Block.
  • smelling – the scent of fallen leaves.
  • feeling - pride in my niece Becca. Her starring performance last weekend as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel was fantastic.

five senses friday #16

Sorry that I didn’t share a five senses friday last week. I guess I just didn’t have it in me. So here’s to a new week, let’s try this again. As always, it would make me beyond happy if you shared a sense or five in the comments section about your past week.

  • seeing – the orange flesh of pumpkins around every corner.
  • tasting - fall flavored coffee creamers. hello pumpkin spice, you make my mornings warmer and cuddlier.
  • hearing - Do You Love Me from Guster, one of may all-time favorite bands.
  • smelling – the Gregger’s waffles.
  • feeling - from grumpy to happy to meh.

Seven days in just five senses. It’s that day of the week again. I’d really love it if you shared a sense, or two, or even five in the comments section below.  I’ll be working all weekend, but still plan to find some kitchen time.  And don’t forget, Meet a Blogger Monday is just around the corner.

  • seeing: the beautiful patch of sunflowers on the way to and from downtown.
  • tasting: the decadent maple-brown sugar frosting that I made. More on that next Thursday.
  • hearing: I Was Made for Sunny Days by the Weepies. A great little end of summer tune.
  • smelling: the almond scented Method wood furniture polish. few things get me excited about cleaning, this is one of them.
  • feeling: rejuvenated.

five senses friday #12

As I’ve mentioned before, I borrowed this idea from another of my favorite blogs. She uses it weekly as a way to sit down and reflect on what the past days have been like for her. I think that’s a pretty cool idea. I hope that you’ll feel free to share you five senses in the comments section, or on your own blog.

  • seeing: the late summer blooms of my garden.
  • tasting: the amazing spinach & artichoke dip pizza from Urban Eats. one of my new favorite lunch-time destinations in downtown Akron.
  • hearing: On Melancholy Hill from the Gorillaz. it’s a sort of new sound for them.
  • smelling: fresh air. what a calming relief it is to open up the windows at home in the evening. hey there Mr. Fall, we’ll see you soon.
  • feeling: stunned at the level of hate and fear mongering among some of my fellow citizens as displayed in the past week.

five senses friday #10

After a bit of an absence, five senses friday is back.  If you’re new to the blog, I borrowed this idea of summing up a week from the fabulous Abby Try Again, who borrowed it from another blogger. I hope, after you read mine, you’ll take a moment to comment and share your five senses from this week. Or maybe even just one sense. I’m sure that you’re not senseless. Warm wishes to you for a swell weekend. There are farmer’s markets, bicycle riding and a dear friend’s birthday in our weekend.

  • seeing: so many beautiful floral landscapes in downtown akron. overflowing planters, vibrant hanging baskets and lush flower beds.
  • tasting: the very sweetest and most delicious glaze on a rather less than stellar rack of spare ribs.
  • hearing: the incredibly infectious Live Forever from Matt Morris
  • smelling: cappuccino brownies baking in the oven.
  • feeling: tired. probably my turn for a sleep study.
  • five senses friday #9

It was a short work week for me, but still a very full week none the less.  Here are the highlights in just five senses.

    • seeing: red, white and blue everywhere. i bought these little flags yesterday. and yes, i’m the kind of guy that irons out the creases before putting them out.
    • tasting: freshly made pesto. as i was watering this morning, i saw my first beetle gnawing at a tender basil leaf. an action plan was created and now there are two jars of amazing basil & walnut pesto in the fridge.
    • hearing: a trio of poppy & delightful new summer tunes from some fabulous ladies. Summer Day by Sheryl Crow, King of Anything by Sara Bareilles, and Cry When You Get Older by Robyn.
    • smelling: fresh air. we’ve had some wonderfully moderate temps lately. i’ve enjoyed opening up the house and breathing in deeply.
    • feeling: introspective. what else would i be doing with my life, if i knew i could not fail? and should i be afraid of failing, anyways?

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.  Here’s the flower that didn’t get posted yesterday. My own little natural fireworks in the back garden.
